Tanzania itself is a low-risk country for yellow fever, but immigration requires proof of vaccination from travelers arriving from โ or transiting more than 12 hours through โ a country the WHO classifies as yellow-fever risk. Visitors arriving directly from Europe or the United States are generally exempt. If you cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, a signed exemption letter from your doctor is usually accepted. The vaccine is given as a single dose at least 10 days before travel and provides lifelong protection, so it's worth arranging early. Tell us your nationality and routing when booking and we'll confirm exactly what documentation you'll need.
Because our parks and mountain routes are remote, we strongly recommend every guest register with the AMREF Flying Doctors emergency service before traveling. For a small membership fee covering roughly 30 days, it provides 24/7 access to emergency medical advice and, if needed, helicopter evacuation from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda or Burundi to the nearest appropriate hospital โ Moshi for Kilimanjaro-area emergencies, or Nairobi for most other locations. It covers the evacuation itself, not hospital treatment afterward, so it should be taken alongside โ not instead of โ comprehensive travel insurance.
